Down Syndrome Awareness Month at Barnes & Noble

Hey Guys and Gals!

We have been sent an email from DSACO and some of you have already heard about this upcoming event. The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) has announced that Barnes and Noble Bookstores has created February to be the month that they will promote awareness of Down Syndrome in it's fellow communities.

  • DATE:   Sat. 02/17/07 and Sun. 02/18/07

  • INFO:    Donating 15% of purchases those 2 days to DSACO.

The CEO of Barnes and Noble, Steve Riggio and a member of the National Down Sydrome Society's Board of Directors has an 18-year-old daughter who had an article recently printed in National Geographic Kids called " I Have Down Syndrome" These events will incorporate readings from his daughter, Melissa's article.

Please go to www.dsaco.org and download the support voucher which needs to be brought with you the event.

Sahara's genetic physician, Dr. David Domek will be there speaking at the book fair on Sat. 02/17/07 at 2pm. There will be a special story time for children and their parents featuring books and music for and about children with Down Syndrome.

We are urging all parents, family and friends and educators to attend the readings . Dr. Domek and other the professionals such as a speech pathologist and a parent/advocacy expert will also speak and host and question and answer panel. Refreshments will be served.
