County Commissioner's Deer Creek Road Plan

Oklahoma County Road Plan Map

June 29, 2007

Parent Post

Reading over some past posts, I saw one in 2006 regarding road improvements where you claim that 3 particular developments were being given preferential treatments.  One of them, Deer Creek Estates (Sante Fe and Sorghum Mill Rd) has been slated for over 3 years to get its 3 streets overlaid but still has seen nothing done.  I don't see this as preferential treatment.  As I said in a recent E-mail to our County Commissioner, ours roads are degrading and I am concerned for the safety of the children who ride their bikes and the cars who spew gravel (due to the deteriorated asphalt) and might possibly skid unintentionally.   Bottom line, you need to consider that certain improvements are on the list because they are desperately needed and that just because they are scheduled doesn't mean they will get done.

Our Reply

Being on the list puts you one step ahead of everybody else.  And we realize that the list is a fluid document that changes all of the time so being on it doesn’t guarantee your roads are going to be fixed.

Please keep in mind that the post was posted during last years campaign in response to the previous county commissioner bragging about what a great job he was doing fixing the roads in the Deer Creek area.  The post was intended to contradict his statements.

As for the preferential treatment, there are many other developments whose roads are in far worse shape then the three mentioned in the post.  There is one development that has a portion of road that is close to collapsing.

So why where those particular developments on the list and not others?  We have since learned that it maybe as simple as notifying the county of the condition of your roads.  That maybe the answer as to why those developments are on the list and not others.

Whatever the reason there is no doubt that there are many of roads in the Deer Creek area that need to be fixed especially with the recent rain and past winter's freeze and thaw.

While the issues you brought up are genuine concerns, I am more worried about over all vehicle saftey as cars weave into another lane to avoid cripling pot holes and school buses & emergency vehicles being able to travel the roads.

Hopefully we will see some improvement before the next county commissioner election.

When will your main roads will be fixed, can the school bus make it through safely, and how much longer before the road becomes rubble?

The Country Commissioner District 3 office has past and future road improvements on their web site. We took a look and here is what we found:

  • 7% of our roads for 2003-2006 saw improvments
  • 18% of our roads for 2006-2007 have planned improvements
  • 3 Developments -- Cedar Ridge Farms, Deer Creek Farms Estates and Deer Creek Estates -- are slotted for road improvements

What does that mean?

  • Only 25% of our roads during an 8 year span will see improvements.
  • 75% of our roads will go with pot hole patches
  • 3 developments are getting preferential treatment.
