When will your main roads will

June 29, 2007
Parent Post: Reading over some past posts, I saw one in 2006 regarding road improvements where you claim that 3 particular developments were being given preferential treatments. One of them, Deer Creek Estates (Sante Fe and Sorghum Mill Rd) has been slated for over 3 years to get its 3 streets overlaid but still has seen nothing done. I don't see ... Read Entire Post >>
Our Reply: Being on the list puts you one step ahead of everybody else. And we realize that the list is a fluid document that changes all of the time so being on it doesn’t guarantee your roads are going to be fixed. Also remember that the post was posted during last years campaign in response to the previous county commissioner bragging about what a great job he was doing fixing the roads in the Deer Creek area. The post was intended to contradict his statements. As for the preferential treatment ... Read Entire Post >> |

Parent Post: Please correct in your school board response
- it's candidate John Robertson, not Jim Robertson, as you
have in your first paragraph. I would like to respond to the
person who is upset about Wade Christiansen being the moderator
for the School Board Forum last week. This person clearly
doesn't realize that it was Clay Christensen, not Wade Christensen,
who is the Secretary of the Foundation. This poster went on

Thank you for your consideration of me as a Deer Creek School
Board Member. We are very fortunate to live in a school district
that consistently ranks as one of the best school districts
in the state. Fortunate, yes, but also challenging. The location
of our school district along with our academic ranking has
brought growth in student population that will continue to
challenge the high standards of our district. No longer is
it good enough to consider Deer Creek a ... Read

When neighboring school systems can barely get one candidate
to file for a seat, I think it speaks well for our district
that we have four candidates. Many of you will remember me
from the 2003 board race with Dr. Danny Barnes. Dr. Barnes
was the successful winner in the election but we both were
surprised that over 1300 patrons voted in the election. The
election was conducted in a gentlemenly manner and both of
us came out of it with a respect for each other as well as
a friendly relationship. I am in no way trying to imply a
secret endorsement by Dr. Barnes, rather ... Read

Communication is the key to improvement and I want to communicate with the patrons of the District. You deserve to know what is going on and have someone to listen to your ideas and opinions. The members of the Board do not have all the answers. It takes listening to all the patrons, researching other district successes and failures, and putting the time and effort into Deer Creek Schools. I have that time and the experience to make .... Public education has been a large part of my life. Both my parents were public school teachers who taught me the value of knowledge and critical thought. As a member of the Deer Creek school board, my goal would be to implement a plan for growth. As part of this plan, I will advocate better communication between the administration and parents of the Deer Creek school district. Currently, Deer Creek maintains a high academic standing which is a direct result of not only the teachers, but also of the parents being actively involved with the students of Deer Creek. My approach would coordinate these positives into one unified endeavor. As a result of such coordination, the administration will hopefully become more accountable to all of the students and parents within the Deer Creek School District.... Read Entire Post >> |

Dear Staff and Parents,
On Thursday, November 15, Deer Creek Schools will hold a community meeting to take a closer look at Safe Routes to School. Safe Routes to School is a federally funded program through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation that provides grants to communities and schools for the establishment of safe routes for bicycling and walking. The potential for the district to receive $1,000,000 over the next five years to improve safety is possible through this grant. Commissioner Ray Vaughn contacted Deer Creek to offer a partnership and ... Read Entire Post >> |

School Board Does Not Endorse Candidates -- Nod, Nod -- Wink,
Wink >> |
| February 12, 2007
Clarifications: In the below article our choice of
words made it appear that a particular candidate was personally
invited to participate at a school event. This is not true.
The candidate volunteered to work at the event and was never
solicited. We apologize to Kailee Zehrung, the organizer of
the event, for our mistake.
The point is not who the candidate was, nor was it how the
candidate went to the event. The point is that the school
district's stated policy is that they will not allow any candidate
to participate at any school function since it could be taken
as an implied endorsement of that candidate by the school
district.
It is against state law for school administration or the
school board to endorse any candidate. Yet a candidate was
allowed ... Read Entire Post >>

Endorsement for Gerald Buckles >> |
| February 10, 2007
Initially the school board candidates seemed like a fresh
start. We didnt know any of them personally. It seemed
that each would bring a fresh perspective to the school board.
We planned on sitting back, watching the campaigning and election
with no bias, good or bad, towards any candidate. While we
had met and talked with each candidate individually, we only
shared our opinions with a few close friends. Each candidate
shared with us their opinions and visions for the district's
future. All of the candidates were very accommodating and
candid. Only if life could only be that simple.
Due to the unfortunate recent events, we feel it is time
to step in. While we respect every candidate for throwing
their hat into the ring we feel that one candidate has distanced
themselves from the others, Gerald Buckles. We feel that he
is the right candidate for the district. ... Read Entire Post >>

Update: phone number added, 405.844.1127.
Most people have moved to the Deer Creek school district
simply for a quality education for their children. Simply
stated but it takes work to achieve this goal. We have only
one chance to perform this task with every child. The only
way that can be done is by working HARD together. Recognizing
that we will not agree on everything but we should weigh every
idea on its own merits and ultimately make the decision based
on whats best for the children present and future.

system that I benefited a great deal from.
