The Deer Creek Chamber of Commerce has reorganized after a long lay off. The chamber’s focus is to help promote business in the Deer Creek Area. For more information about the chamber or joining please visit their web site at www.DeerCreekChamber.com. Soon after the first meeting, a new proposed development was announced. The article below can also be found at www.DeerCreekChamber.com.
Proposed Land Development
The Commissioners of the Land Office is accepting proposals to develop 212.5 acres of land located at the NE Corner of 206th (Covell) and Rockwell. Proposals for development need to be submitted to the land office by March 15th. The final decision will be made on March 30th by the Commissioners of the Land Office. As of the writing of this article only two proposals have been received. One of which was a housing development and the other was the relocation of an International Company Headquarters. It is anticipated that up to four proposals will be received.
The proposal submitted for the housing development will include approximately 100 houses on 1/2 acre lots. It will include an equine center with additional housing for the staff of the equine center. The land would have to be rezoned to accommodate building on 1/2 acre lots.
The proposal submitted for the company headquarters would consist of the headquarters and two additional commercial facilities which would include a restaurant. The company would lease the land from the Land Office instead of purchasing the land.
The Deer Creek Chamber is supporting the plan for submitted for bringing the headquarters to the Deer Creek area. The economic impact of the proposal would be long term and beneficial to the entire Deer Creek Community, including businesses and the school district. Relocation of the headquarters also will impact the current housing development with bringing in high paid employees who would be relocating to the area from outside the state. The headquarters can be the cornerstone of future economic growth of the district that would indeed benefit us all.
Some of the factors used in developing the chamber’s opinion include:
- Which plan will have the greatest long terms affect on the community?
- How many empty houses and un-built plots are already available in the Deer Creek Community?
- Which plan will help the business community the most?
- How will any plan affect the flood plain and the surrounding properties?
- Does the community support building on 1/2 acre lots?
We will release more information after March 15th or whenever details become available. |
