November 12, 2007
Dear Staff and Parents,
On Thursday, November 15, Deer Creek Schools will hold a community meeting to take a closer look at Safe Routes to School. Safe Routes to School is a federally funded program through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation that provides grants to communities and schools for the establishment of safe routes for bicycling and walking. The potential for the district to receive $1,000,000 over the next five years to improve safety is possible through this grant. Commissioner Ray Vaughn contacted Deer Creek to offer a partnership and assistance with our application for funding of this grant. We appreciate his efforts to support our schools.
Our purpose for meeting with the community is to understand better what patrons feel is most needed by Deer Creek to establish safe routes for bicycling, walking, and running. Representatives from Commissioner Vaughn’s office will be present to moderate this meeting. We are seeking input from the community as to what is needed to provide safe areas for our elementary students to walk or bicycle to school, areas for exercise at all of our schools, and safe areas for our middle and high school runners to practice off of our roads. You may also have other ideas that we have not yet thought of that might better serve our students and community.
Please join us November 15 at Deer Creek Middle School for this important meeting. We will begin at 7:00 in the school’s Multi-purpose room located just inside the entry way.
Becky Wilkinson
Superintendent
Note from Tony Jones
Dear Parents,
The Superintendent is working on a 1 million dollar grant that will greatly enhance the Deer Creek District in regards to access to walking trails on campus and to and from the Deer Creek campus area. If you could please take 2 minutes and fill out this less than 20 question, online survey, we would greatly appreciate your time. All responses are anonymous. We must survey the parents in order to submit the full application on behalf of the Deer Creek School District. The survey will be open through Wednesday. Thank you for your time!
