Out of Both Sides
of Shelley's Mouth
School Board Forum:
Shelley Denton brags about how Rose Union was built for $28 less / sq. ft. than Piedmant built their school for.
PTO Meeting:
In regards to the lack of fire protection in the Rose Union Portables, Shelley says that it will cost $10,000 extra to fix. They know it costs more doing it this way but the board decided it was just the right thing to do. |

Yes - anyone who has gone to a PTO meeting at Rose Union knows what a "bargain" the building was. Ask Shelly Denton (Ms. Data) who regularly attends those PTO meetings, how much has been spent on fixing problems with the building, let alone the fact that the building was already outgrown before it was moved into. Some bargain!
Ever heard of the saying, "You get what you pay for"? Obviously Shelly and the Board hasn't. I believe that the same firm is now building the new elementary school as well - another brilliant decision by our school board.

My first reaction to the comment that Rose Union cost $28 less/sq.ft. than Stone Ridge was, "We've been robbed!" Anyone who thinks the $28 cost difference is good should go on a tour of Stone Ridge. It is obvious that this school has an innovative floor plan from the minute you walk into the glass lobby. The office opens directly from doors on the left of the lobby so everyone is funneled through the office during the day. After hours the doors that open straight ahead can be unlocked to let all foot traffic through to the school.
If we had used the Stone Ridge floor plan, 90% of our current security problems would be solved. In addition, Stone Ridge has other unusual features like a music room with bleachers that also functions as a backstage area for the stage. The library has a room off to one side that can be used for meetings and movies while not disturbing children in the main library area. The library and cafeteria are large and open and the halls are wide and bright. Even the flagpole is automated. I think the $28 dollars/sq.ft. was well worth it!
