Fundraising at Prairie Vale

Parent Post

Why did PV parents received a letter today warning that if the $60,000 needed to support the school wasn't made at the walk a thon, an auction would need to be held or we would have to sell wrapping paper, etc? Especially when Rose Union announced at her PTO meeting this morning, the jog-a-thon would be their only fundraiser and they were hoping to raise $50,000 w/ $20,000 of that going to the playground equipment.

Hmmm, PV has 200 less kids than last year, but needs $10,000 more than last year.

Hmmm, PV is an established school but needs $30,000 more to function than a new school w/ the equivalent number of kids.

Things that make you go hmmm...

Our Reply

For the record DCES is asking for $50,000 as well. It is amazing to me that the elementary schools are starting the year with a deficit of $160,000. But if you use the logic of the PV newsletter the district is starting the year at a deficit of $2,800,000. To read more, see Part I of our fundraising series >>
