Reaction to "School
Does Not Endorse Candidates -- Nod, Nod -- Wink, Wink"

Parent Post 1
Let me start by saying our family has been in the Deer Creek school
district since 1992 and this is the first time I have ever felt
compelled to respond to a comment placed on the DCS Post. My reply
is in response to parent post 3 concerning John Robertson's volunteer
time. The comment specifically questions Mr. Robertson's volunteering
time just because this particular parent "has yet to meet Mr.
Robertson". I by far am not an expert on how much time John
has volunteered, however I have personally witnessed his presence
and been offered his assistance and his wife's on NUMEROUS occasions.
I ask the questioning parent, have you ever been to a high school
or middle school baseball game? Mr. Robertson is the HS Baseball
Booster Club president; however he goes above and beyond his duty
even when his son isn't playing a game. In addition, both he and
his wife have gracious volunteered to help w/ numerous wrestling
tournaments although they don\'t even have a child that wrestles.
One addt'l factor to consider is also a full-time profession. Obviously
maintaining a full-time, demanding career doesn't always allow a
during the week day volunteer opportunity, however evenings and
weekends has John offering up much assistance. Next time, instead
of blaming him for "not having met him" why don't you
take the initiative to volunteer where he does and get the opportunity
to meet a genuine sincere man who I believe will do a great job
on the school board.
Parent Post 2
It's my understanding the school board election was very close.
Like a 1 vote difference. Maybe there needs to be a recount. Especially
in light of all the hub bub about Mr. Robertson's volunteering at
the PV Bingo night. Quite possibly he's not the one that should
be on the board. Something to think about.
Our Reply
Now that the election is over it is time to embrace John Robertson
as our newest School Board Member. Our goal should be to work with
John give him the time to do what he said he was going to do. Remember
that the uproar surrounding the PV Bingo night was caused by school
administration and not John Robertson.

Parent Post 1 of 3: Two questions come to mind after reading
Mrs. Zehrung's reply: 1) How many parents who have never had nor
currently have children at PV volunteered to help? 2) If the flyers
were sent with students and staff and placed in the lobby, how did
Mr. Robertson find out about the opportunity to volunteer? Are we
to assume he has nothing better to do than go to each school looking
for volunteer opportunities? Wisen up folks!
Parent Post 2 of 3: Kailee Zehrung is an extraordinary volunteer
and supporter of PV School. She is highly dedicated and all know
that should the need arise, Kailee will take charge and do an outstanding
job. Kailee should not take this post personally, but she has a
sense of integrity which seems to be rare these days. I understand
and applaud her for her hard work and find no fault with her. The
fact remains that someone either asked Mr. Robertson to place himself
in a prominently visible position or he asked to be there. It's
the politics which we expect from a politician. But, I don't want
politics from someone directly in charge of my child's education.
No one stopped to think or question how this might be perceived
by the patrons. It's always a matter of damage control and not prevention.
I'm surprised that the BOE and Superintendent aren't yet tired of
hearing from PV patrons.
Parent Post 3 of 3: It concerns me greatly that a lawyer
- who supposedly knows the law and had harped in his campaign how
his knowledge will help the board was involved in a situation that
could be perceived as violating state law!
I believe the 3 other candidates should band together and have
him removed from the race! We need no more unethical decisions!
The reason we need a fresh face outside of the "clique"
is because of instances just like this.........thanks Mr. Robertson
for proving the other 3 candidates points and for providing icing
on the cake to the sincere need for administration that is worthy
of their job - can we get them in place soon??
- I find it very ironic that I bust my rear at the schools volunteering
ALL THE TIME and at various sites.
- I have yet to meet Mr. Robertson and he has children at my school.
- Funny, all of a sudden there is an election and he magically
volunteers?
- What about the other 3 candidates?
- I have NEVER seen Mr. Biggs either...........but at least this
time he did nothing illegal.
Mr. McPhail and Mr. Buckles BOTH volunteer all the time and are
committed to being an active part of our district. They both volunteer
at academic and athletic events. They attend school functions both
of their own kids and just within the district.
While I am choosing just one of those 2 men.............I hope
that people step up to the plate today and demand a change. We need
no more hypocrisy amongst our board. I would be embarrassed to be
a member! I appreciate those that are willing to try and make a
change.......one elector at a time!

As the coordinator of the volunteers for the Birthday Bingo Bash
I am compelled to respond to the DCSPosts most recent post,
dated Feb.10 titled Hot Topic: The School Board Does Not Endorse
CandidatesNod, Nod, -- Wink, Wink.
The method I used to solicit volunteers was initiated Nov. 20 in
the form of a flyer titled Prairie Vale is turning 10.
On the bottom of this document it states RSVP: If you would
like to help with this EXCITING Event please email Kailee@claim-tech.com
This was the first document created and distributed soliciting volunteers.
I personally made 550 copies of this document (which I will attach
in its entirety to this email). All Prairie Vale students
and staff members were given a copy of this document. Either in
their staff boxes or in the students backpacks, additional
copies were left in the lobby for the general public to collect.
The second method of soliciting volunteers for the Birthday Bingo
Bash was initiated on January 24th in the form of a flyer titled
Birthday Bingo Bash. On the bottom of this document
it states We are still in need of volunteers to help with
this event. If you can help please email Kailee Zehrung at Kailee@claim-tech.com
or leave a message in the office (to be placed in the SSC Box) Thank
You! I personally made 550 copies of this document (which
I will attach in its entirety to this email). All Prairie
Vale students and staff members were given a copy of this document.
Either in their staff boxes or in the students backpacks,
additional copies were left in the lobby for the general public
to collect.
The third method of soliciting volunteers for the Birthday Bingo
Bash was initiated on January 25th in the form of an email titled
Birthday Bingo Bash. On the bottom of this email it
states We are still in need of volunteers to help with this
event. If you can help please email Kailee Zehrung at Kailee@claim-tech.com
or leave a message in the office (to be placed in the SSC Box) Thank
You! This email was distributed using the school email list.
At the time of this email distribution I also made 50 copies of
this document and placed them in the school lobby for the general
public to collect. (I will also attach this document in its entirety
to this email).
There is one thing I would like to clarify and make specifically
clear to all patrons. At NO time was there an invitation extended
personally by myself requesting an individuals presence as
a volunteer. The above forms and email were used to make the general
public aware of the need for volunteers. Many volunteers emailed,
called and some left notes in the PV office stating their desire
to help make this event successful. NO volunteer was turned down
or sent away. Events such as the Birthday Bingo Bash require many
volunteers to be successful.
A patron contacted me about the use of the high school National
Honor Society students. This individual called me at home (my number
is in the directory) and offered the use and services of the National
Honor Society students for volunteers. The high school, middle school
and elementary schools are woven together. Many patrons have students
at multiple schools within our district. The Birthday Bingo Bash
had adult volunteers, high school volunteers, middle school volunteers
and even elementary students who helped hang signs, set up chairs,
and organize the preparation for this exciting event.
The Bingo Bash was a huge success. I received over 50 verbal commitments,
email commitments, and letters from patrons volunteering their time
and services. It is wonderful to have such great support from Deer
Creek patrons when it comes to fundraising.
At no time was there intent to give any candidate an audience
for their campaign agenda, and the candidate you discuss in your
post titled Hot Topic: The School Board Does Not Endorse CandidatesNod,
Nod, -- Wink, Wink did not imply or otherwise engage in any
said activity.
As far as I am concerned, (being the coordinator of this event)
all patrons were simply volunteering their time because the need
was there. I have made no public endorsement of any candidate and
have no intent to do so.
I would like to personally thank all the patrons who came out and
supported our teachers, weather it was donating money, volunteering
time or spreading the word to other patrons of such an exciting
event. The turn out was amazing and the experience memorable for
our children.
I would like to also state my disappointment in the DCSPOST. The
DCS Post was created to provide a source for information
and at the time of this email (Sunday, February 11, 2007) I have
received NO contact (via email, phone, flyer or letter) from the
DCSPOST. No contact has been made from the DCSPOST to verify facts
or dismiss incorrect assumptions. The post made on Feb. 10th titled
Hot Topic: The School Board Does Not Endorse CandidatesNod,
Nod, -- Wink, Wink was an interpretation, NOT the FACTS. I
(being the coordinator of the Birthday Bingo Bash) am disappointed
that the DCSPOST did not do their homework.
I personally expect an apology from the DCSPOST, for their incorrect
assumption.
I request the DCSPOST post this letter in its entirety.
Thank you again to our patrons for their continued support.
