School Board Refuses to meet with Patrons
In March, an informal poll found that over 50 people wanted meet with the BOE and the Superintendent regarding Prairie Vale Principal Michelle Anderson's leadership practices. On March 12 a letter was sent to the board requesting the meeting. On March 15, Superintendent Wilkinson and Board President Shelly Denton declined the meeting. Patrons respond:

They have escalated this situation to a point of no return.  It's time for the 50 to put up or shut up.  And I can tell you they're [the school board] banking on us shutting up.  If they can put us all off until school is out, once again the fire will be quenched only to rekindle this time next year. It's funny when things are put in writing with signatures attached, they tend to suddenly become attentive. It's time for all of us to decide if this issue is important enough to sign the dotted line once again.  It's not about a Principal so much as the Superintendent and BOE's willingness to look the other way when patron concern is rampant.  This should have been handled long ago by the administration.  It's not our duty to have to point out the inadequacy of our local school leadership.  Unfortunately, it seems our administration doesn't seem to think FIFTY is a very big number unless it applies to enrollment or fundraising.  How 'bout a simple letter of "No Confidence"?  That about sums it up.

Our Reply

Actually, I think only three board members are responsible for turning down the request for the meeting.  Probably the same three who turned down the request to for an outside organization to have the County Commissioners forum at the school.  We will go into that with greater detail tomorrow.

Parent Post: It's very simple to me:

  1. They don't want to have their dirty laundry aired in public. The more we discuss our problems the more people will realize that there are issues here that do affect them. If more PV patrons learned about these issues, then the board would have to finally admit that the problems do exist.

  2. It is so much easier to dismiss us one at a time. At an individual meeting, they can “hear” your concerns, give you the standard answers, then leave you feeling like you are the only one with a problem. The “strength in numbers” we have as a group of concerned parents is something they don't want to deal with. How do you tell 50 people that this problem doesn't exist?
