I wanted to express and question today’s Newsletter for the month of December at DCES. Why is it that we refer to Christmas as only a "holiday”? Politically correct or not "winter" party degrades the true sense of the season. I bring this to attention because it was mentioned over and over Happy Holidays in the newsletter, but then they add Happy Hanukkah with a picture of a Menorah...
This is not at all an education issue, but a question of is it okay for one religion to be addressed but not the most commonly celebrated one? If it is a National Holiday why can't a public school in our Nation say "Christmas”? I am with no shame a Believer in Christmas and it is an insult when someone says it might offend someone to use Christmas, yet all of those people I am sure don't decline taking that day off with their pay... Happy Kwanza, Happy Ramadan, Happy Hanukkah and MERRY CHRISTMAS!! You do not have to post this I just wanted to know why in such a hyper politically correct administration did they let this one slide?

In defense of the school district they truly are in a no win situation with this topic. While we totally understand the spirit behind ‘Separation of Church and State’ it unfortunately is the extremist that dictates how a public entity handles religious holidays. It is a shame that All Events are not celebrated in some form or fashion to educate our children about the aspects of all beliefs. Maybe someday society can get to the point where we live in harmony and acceptance of each groups different beliefs. Thanks for the post.
