Many people asked why the upcoming Commissioners forum sponsored
by Deer Creek Organizations and Businesses will not be held at the
school. A request was issued to use the High School for the meeting.
By a vote of 3-2, the school board rejected the request. The reason
stated was that the school board did not want the school to be involved
with any political process that could influence the help the school
would receive from elected officials. The whole process was informal
due to the lack of time available. Superintendent Wilkinson went
above and beyond with her handling of the situation.
The school boards decision sure makes a person wonder. Didnt
the school district do something very similar during a sheriffs
election? And wasnt it the school district that held a public
forum for many elected officials only a few years back?
Now I certainly understand the school board not wanting to support
one side or another. Being neutral makes sense. But how does allowing
an outside organization to hold an event on school property change
neutrality?
Doesnt it make you wonder that these are the same people
making the decisions that affect our childrens education?
The last time we wrote something negative towards the school board
we were told that our credibility with the school board had diminished.
Shouldnt the school board be more concerned with their credibility
with the Deer Creek Patrons?
