Fundraising & Donations Series

September 11, 2006

Over the last week we have received numerous e-mails (see sample posts: Parent Post 1 and Parent Post 2) in regards to the fundraising at the different schools. We start by reviewing what each elementary school is asking for to run their schools.

Deer Creek Elementary is asking for ~$150/student with a total target of $50,000. As of today there has been no itemized report sent to the parents about where the money is going.

Prairie Vale Elementary is asking for ~$125/student with a total target of $60,000. As of today there has been no itemized report sent to the parents about where the money is going.

Rose Union Elementary is asking for ~$125/student with a total target of $50,000. Principal Riggs itemized her request and gave it to the Parents of her school. She is asking for $20,000 for playground equipment and $30,000 for general needs which were itemized out and share with the parents. Kudos to Principal Riggs for sharing this information with the patrons of Rose Union, hopefully others follow her example soon.

Now why is it the newest school is only asking for $30,000 to cover operating expenses and the other two are double that amount? One would think it would be the other way around. Certainly a newer school would have more needs?

The next question is at Prairie Vale. Last year each teacher each received $700 for their accounts.(down $200 from the year before) For those who don’t know the teachers use the money in these accounts to buy classroom materials that are not included in their general expenses. So if they receive the same this year that equates out to approximately $14,000. So where does the other $46,000 going? The same question can be asked for Deer Creek Elementary. At least with Rose Union we know they are going to spend $20,000 on playground equipment.

Tomorrow we will delve into past expenditures to see if we can think of where that extra money is needed.
