We commend anybody who is willing to donate their time
for the betterment of our children. Most people couldnt
tell you who was on the board or recognize a board member
in public. We certainly want to thank our current board
for generously giving up their time to do a task that
most people are not willing to do. With all that said,
generously giving up time does not remove them from
criticism or put them above being questioned. We are
not suggesting a mass mutiny against the board. We are
asking that the community get involved and start asking
questions.
We know that we can go over the top at the DCSpost.com
with our evaluation of our board. Some may not agree
with our methods or opinions. Most would agree it is
good to get issues out in the open and to talk about
them. Ignoring problems will not make them go away.
For far too long we have been led to believe that everything
is fine because the district gets great test scores.
It is time to look under the hood. While success is
a wonderful thing, it is also a great smokescreen for
whats wrong. The strongest chain is still only
as strong as its weakest link. Someday that link will
break.
Take a look at our board. I find it odd that these
board members told us how much they were going to do
for the school district if elected. They were going
to see that all of our concerns were addressed. Since
they were elected, they have increasingly put up barriers
make it harder and harder for patrons to communicate
with them. Wouldnt you think they would be going
out of their way to communicate with us?
A lot of people did not agree with the process in Dr.
Barnes' technology proposal, us included. But you have
to commend Dr. Barnes for taking a proactive approach
to technology. If you ever have the chance to talk with
Jim Benson, as we did, you will find he is one of the
most intelligent and forward thinking people you will
ever meet. So it just confuses us on how the board can
shine so brightly at times and yet be so inept at others.
So where do we go from here? The actions of the board
are too complex to address in one post. Since we have
been doing this website we have heard some amazing things
from our board members. Over the next week we are going
to breakdown and address recent issues regarding the
board.
