School Board - What Next?

September 19, 2006

Tell them what you think.
Whether you agree or disagree with them, contact them and let them know how you feel. Think again if you don’t think it matters. By doing this website and by letting the board know how we feel, things have changed. Look at the board section of the deer creek website. They are posting the highlights from the board meetings, they are going to post the Frequently Asked Questions, and have added a form to address concerns on the website. That was all a result of this website. Make enough noise and you will get a response.

Evaluate the current school board members.
Do they bring a mixture of specialties to the table or do they lack certain skill sets? For any board to be effective, it needs to be made up of independent thinkers with a breadth of business skills. There needs to be checks and balances between the members. Most importantly they need to question ‘Why’ things happen or are being requested. They need focus on the future without forgetting about the here and now, which is exactly what has happened to this board today.

Vote in the upcoming board elections.
The best way to tell the district how you feel is by voting. Remember to vote for the individual who is going to be the best for the school. Let’s elect someone who will focus not only on the future but on the present. We can’t afford five more years of status quo.
