2006-2007 saw major bus route shifts. Some buses became
over crowded while others had extra seats. Some routes
became longer, while others did not. Is your child's
school bus over crowded or are you one of the lucky
ones with a few extra seats? Have you called and talked
the person who rerouted the buses this year? Did you
get an answer to your question?
We live 2 miles from the middle school. Our children
get home 50 minutes after the buses pull out. The bus
covers an area that starts at 130th and goes up to 220th.
This seemed a little excessive so we called and were
told that the brand new computer software plotted the
routes and it knew what it was doing. No changes were
to be made. Later we were told that they would reevaluate
the routes and see what they could do. Still no changes
were made.
Computer software is only as good as the data put into
it and the person who operates it. Adjust the data (or
the operator) and huge changes can be made. New software
is like furnishing a room. You've got to move the furniture
around a few times, walk through the room, sit down,
and play with the TV before knowing if you have the
right setup. The software itself is not the end-all
of answers. It seemed that the person in charge of the
busses didn't quite grasp this.
The transportation department recently went through
a personnel change. Hopefully the school will take this
opportunity to reevaluate, adjust and improve. That
is if they can admit something is wrong with the current
process.
