School District Parents
The generosity of the community when it comes to our
district is inspiring. They continue to give and support
our children and the district. They have always been
there when the district needed them, whether in time,
resources or money.
What the Patrons Do
For the school year 2006-2007:
- They donated over $85,000 to the elementary schools
for their walkathons.
- The Deer Creek Schools Foundation is reported record
donations this year.
- Don't forget all the support the they have given
each booster program.
School Activity Fund
What goes into the School Activity Fund? It is funded
by:
- Gate Receipts
- Concession Sales Fundraisers done through schools
by students such as band students selling Blue and
Gold Sausage, etc.
It is budgeted this year to be $1.3 million, up from
$1 million last year. As a barometer it a great way
to measure the school district support from parents
and patrons. There is no doubt that parents continue
to be very supportive of the school.
What is off the Radar
How many of you have sent in paper, ink, books, and
other supplies? When the schools ask, it is a heart
warming to see overwhelming amount of supplies that
are sent in. While these items are off the radar when
it comes to reported budgeted numbers, they certainly
count and help the teachers enormously.
The Superintendent stated at recent board meeting that
there was more money available to each schools' individual
accounts. Apparently there is some extra bond money
available that could be transferred to the school if
needed. Borrowing from Paul to pay Mary ... is that
a good business practice? We think not but that is another
post for another day.
Where do we go from here?
When you add up all of the money the parents and patrons
of the school district will give to the school this
year, the number would come in over $2 million easily.
But yet some still think we should give more. That may
be true but we think that the problem may not lie in
the amount of funds received but actually in how the
funds are spent. It seems as too many questionable purchase
have been approved by the Superintendent. It seems that
once the Superintendent approves these purchase, the
school board is not spot checking under $5K items to
ensure that they are in fact necessary and needed. You
would think that the administrators and the school board
could figure out how to efficiently operate our school
district with the funds they have received.

Fundraising III - How the Budgets are Used
Notes & Corrections: We stated yesterday
that the Superintendent voted against the PTOs
having another fundraiser. The Superintendent actually
didnt vote on the issue.
