July 4, 2006 The Prairie Vale Greenhouse final construction cost is in. At the last school board meeting it was announced that the cost to construct the greenhouse was $5500. It was paid for by the school but we are not sure which fund it came out of. Added with the $10,000 grant from the DCCEF to purchase the greenhouse, the total cost of the greenhouse project was $15,500. June 2, 2006 The greenhouse is complete and ready for use. Again we thank the DCEEF for their grant to purchase the greenhouse. Many parents are excited about having the greenhouse available for their groups to use. ![]() ![]() May 5, 2006 On May 3 Superintendent Wilkerson announced that the Greenhouse at Prairie Vale is scheduled to be built two weeks after school ends. The builder will examine the parts of the greenhouse to determine if any need to be replaced. The entire cost of assembly and part replacement will be paid for by Prairie Vale. April 27, 2006 Prairie Elementary School received a grant in 2005 to purchase and assemble a greenhouse for student instruction. We are now in 2006 and the greenhouse has yet to be assembled. Parents are concerned with the fact that the greenhouse has yet to be assembled and question why they should donate their money if the school is going to treat the donations in this manner. When developing the project there were unforeseen issues that resulted in a delay in its construction. School officials are trying to be diligent in finding the correct solution as to not compound the issues associated with the project.
Upon hearing of the delay with the completion of the project the DCCEF began working with school officials. The DCCEF is confident that they have worked out a solution that will bring this project to a resolution within a few months. This is a great example of why parents should donate funds through the DCCEF. Even though there have been some glitches with the project the DCCEF has stayed with it and are seeing it through to the end.
We will keep you updated on the project as details become available. If you would like more information about the project you can contact the DCCEF or school officials directly. |
